hasta la vista 2010!

i've been on vacation since for the past 10 days and it's been glorious!  but it also means i've let the 'i have nothing to do so i'm perfecting the art of laziness' mode take over in the past few days....which is why this post was meant to be posted last night but instead is coming to you bright and early this morning.  nothing like starting the year off with a little procrastination.

i'm not one to make a list of resolutions, so i don't have anything to go back to from 1/1/2010 and check off.  which is too bad, i love making lists and i love checking things off.  but after flipping through exactly 3,000 pictures in my iPhoto library and reflecting on all of the great times from 2010, i wouldn't say that it was necessarily the best year ever or that it was a bad year but say that it was a year full of accomplishments and challenges and fun adventures!

2010 started out with a fantastic family trip to Park City, Utah.  It was a surprise Christmas present from my parents and it was the first big family vacation we had taken in a while so it was great to spend time with everyone in such a gorgeous setting where we had fun at every turn.  skiing, snowmobiling (and getting run over, ouch), dinner in a viking yurt...it was a trip that great memories are made of!
there were trips to Rhode Island, New Jersey and Massachusetts to visit family.  snowstorms and blizzards to drive through.  countless outings in PA.  an action packed weekend in NYC.  and a much needed week of relaxation in New Hampshire.

i did things i never thought i'd do and things i always wanted to do but never got around to...
like training for and competing in not one, but TWO, sprint triathlons...
running a 5k...
making jewelry for 2 weddings...
being a spectator at the manayunk bike race (after hearing about it for 10 years!)...
experiencing the strawberry festival at peddler's village...
actually celebrating st. patrick's day in a bar...
watched the stotesbury regatta and remembered why i quit crew...
rode some crazy rollercoasters...
started this crazy blog.

my baby sister graduated from college...
and my cousin welcomed this precious little baby boy to our family...

the one thing that made 2010 different than the past few years is that i made a conscious effort to get out and DO things instead of sitting around waiting for something to happen.  i think we were busier than ever but didn't feel tied down with excessive commitments to the point that it wasn't enjoyable.

aside from the vacations, the weekends for most of March through September were filled with music - some great, others just eh, but it was something to do...and cheap for the most part too!  buying the 92.5xtu (local country station) megaticket was a great way to ensure there was an option to breakup the weekend tri training schedule or boredom.
got to see my girl taylor swift on my birthday, to start the year of music off right,
and then saw all of these acts:

plus mz and i ate our hearts out...
if there was a restaurant we wanted to try, we just went.
why put it off?  make a reservation and GO was the mentality and it made my stomach SO happy...pants, not so much.  the list is shorter than i originally thought, but the food was so overwhelmingly amazing that i think i'm still full from a few of these.
definitely need to do more of this in 2011!

i love being busy but recently realized the need to appreciate and accept the quiet downtime too....so i'm working on it, with the help of Bikram Yoga of course.  lots and lots of yoga in the past few months and it really has made a world of difference mentally and physically.

but there's always room for improvement...
so i'm going to work on refining my goals and hopes for 2011 while eating some panettone french toast and watching eat pray love.  check back this afternoon or tomorrow!

have a wonderful January 1, 2011...it's the only one you're going to get, so what are you doing with your day?!
